FUNDS ARE NEEDED

The COST of training a service dog:

The typical costs are approximately $20,000, however, through fundraising efforts and matching contributions of services made possible by the FSDS, we are able to train these dogs for approximately $6,500. We are hoping to raise an additional $1,000 per dog to cover additional non-training expenses such as the purchase of equipment at the time the dog is turned over to the recipient, set up of a veterinary account for the first year, and home medical alert monitoring systems to help safeguard these wounded heroes.

The FSDS is seeking business sponsorships to benefit Service Dog Training Program. Local businesses can get involved by adopting and sponsoring a dog, and then hosting events throughout the training program to benefit the dog. Some examples of events that have been successful are a Puppy Shower early on to help outfit the puppy with basic needs, a birthday or holiday party and a graduation party to help provide the dog with items they will need as they transition to their recipients. Events such as this are educational and fun, as the employees get to meet their dog and learn first hand about service and facility dogs and how they benefit our community.
